Shauna Hill calmed our anxiety

I want to nominate Shauna Hill for the Interim Home Health Care November Wall of Inspiration recognition award. I returned home after a hectic October week in the hospital to a basket of new prescriptions, multiple release instructions for care for different specialties, a calendar soon filled with almost daily medical appointments and tests and wondering what home health care meant. My wife and I were more than anxious after learning what my future medical experiences were going to be as I tried to remain calm about my prognosis.

We had chosen Interim Home Health Care for support and Shauna called to arrange a time to discuss what Interim would and could do to help us manage what we now faced. She arrived on time, poised, and spoke with an air of confidence that was calming. She asked me a series of questions as she completed the necessary forms and freely answered ours about what Interim staff would do to help us manage what we were suddenly experiencing. She was knowledgeable, patient, and quickly sensed and understood the level of our anxiety because I’ve never had such a health setback (and I believe Deanna wasn’t sure if there would be a Christmas or a funeral event soon. I shared some of that feeling.).

Shauna spent additional time to explain all the home nurse would help with, including follow up for confirmation of the assorted lab test schedules, relay questions to any of the four Doctors involved, and we finally relaxed and felt comfortable to know help was available when we needed it. She isn’t my Case Manager but occasionally still calls to ensure we are coping with the daily trauma.

Her calm demeanor that first day followed by the staff who visit us regularly emphasized the importance of Home Health Care as providing more than the mere medical necessities during time like we are now daily living with. A Thank You to her.
